I disagree that consoles will continue to take a back seat to PCs in video gaming. Sure, there will always be those who will be more than willing to continually lay out thousands for expensive new PCs, the latest graphics cards, and other upgrades. Certainly, the PC industry really HOPES so, as do some of the youthful online gaming hot shots. But as a 62-year old avid video game player, who skills and pocketbook will never compete with the 16 year olds, but loves playing single-player FPS's nonetheless, I beg to differ.

I started playing the older games, such as DOOM and Half Life, on the PC. But when I got my hands on the Xbox and PS2 controllers, I never went back. I can't see playing with a mouse and having to spend untold thousands on upgrades, and having to go through installation rituals and tweaking to get the games to work. Also, I rent most games from Gamefly, and I don't think any rental outfits rent PC video games. And I don't think very many people today can shell out $20 - $60 dollars every week to play a new game. I play (or tryout) a game every week on average, some 50+ a year. It costs me an average $6.50 per rental when I average them out over time.

I think the video game industry is also overlooking the entire baby boom retirees like myself, as potential vast source of new players. They think its only for kids, which I feel is very wrongheaded. If they designed and marketed games and consoles made with some input from senior game-lovers like myself, they could vastly increase market share. But PC will always be here, but in the end the console will rule.

Stores get the promotional stuff from the company's. So, its up to Microsoft if they use it as a selling point.

With a computer you can do so much more, and have as much of an experience you want. On a real gaming computer it will run anything on the market.
